금민정 작가는 도라산역 안에 새로운 역사가 만들어지는 가상의 플랫폼을 제작한다. 도라산역 번호는 K338로, 도라산역 안에 만들어진 미디어 플랫폼은 미디어 아트가 만들어 낸 예술적 가상 공간을 통해 역 안의 역이 된다. 이번에 특징적인 것은 1950년 전쟁 이후부터 현재까지의 비무장지대라는 특정 장소가 가진 데이터, 시간의 흐름 특히 장소의 흔적과 밀접한 관계가 있는 날씨 데이터 즉 풍량, 일조량, 강우량, 강설량, 현실적인 데이터 등을 수집하여 이러한 데이터를 이용해 영상의 움직임을 반영하는 기술을 시도한다.
〈Nature, Platform 338〉의 플랫폼은 앞으로 남북 관계가 개선되거나 통일이 되면 새로운 형태로 실제로 존재할 수 있는, 가상의 역으로 존재한다. 도라산역은 실제로 사용이 가능하지만, 북으로, 유라시아로는 이용된 적이 없기 때문에 금민정 작가는 가상의 플랫폼을 이용해, 한반도의 자연 그리고 미디어의 빛으로 만들어진 희망의 플랫폼을 영상으로 선보인다.
Min Jeong Geum’s Nature, Platform 338 is a virtual platform that aims to create a new history within Dorasan Station (K338). The media platform produced inside the Dorasan Station becomes a station within a station through virtual reality. Weather data, such as wind volume, sunshine, rainfall, snowfall, and realistic data that are closely related to the passage of time, especially traces of places, was collected from areas called the Demilitarized Zones between the 1950s to present day. This data was then translated into imagery that reflects the movement and change over time. Nature, Platform 338 exists as a virtual station that could become a reality with the improvement of inter-Korean relations and/or unification. While the station can technically operate during the exhibition, the restrictions and denied access to North Korea and Eurasia remain intact. The artist therefore utilizes a virtual platform to visualize a place of hope with images of the natural landscape of the Korean Peninsula fused with compelling innovative technology.
