제진역
Jejin Station
제진역은 2000년 6·15 남북정상회담 때 남북출입사무소 설치에 합의하면서, 동해선 복구 사업의 일환으로 2006년 준공된 대한민국 동해북부선의 역이다. 강원도 고성군 현내면 민간인출입통제구역 에 위치하고 있다. 대한민국 최북단의 역이어서 군사분계선 너머 북측 최남단의 감호역과 10km, 금강산과는 27km 거리에 불과하다. 그래서 제진역 컨테이너야드에 올라서면 육안으로 동해바다, 금강산, 설악산을 동시에 조망할 수 있다. 남과 북은 제진역과 북측 감호역을 철도로 연결하고 2007년에는 남북열차 시험운행을 하였다. 지금은 제진역 남쪽으로 동해북부선이 끊어져 있어 국제열차역으로서 온전한 기능수행에 한계가 있다. 한편 제진역이 있는 동해선남북출입사무소는 이산가족들에게 만남의 공간으로서 의미가 있다. 금강산과 속초에서 이산가족 상봉행사가 번갈아 개최될 때 이산가족들은 이곳을 통해 남과 북을 버스로 오가며 만남의 기쁨과 이별의 눈물을 나누었다.. 동해 북부선 제진역 - 강릉 구간은 현재 철도가 설치되어 있지 않으나, 앞으로 연결공사가 추진될 예정이다.
Jejin Station is a northern railway station on the South Korean frontier, situated on the Donghae Bukbu Railway Line in the city of Goseong, Gangwon Province. It was completed in 2006 as part of the East Sea Line (Donghae Bukbu) restoration project, which the two Koreas agreed to during the June 15, 2000, Inter-Korean Summit. The station is located within the Civilian Control Line, providing very limited access to civilians who can only enter after applying for advance permission. The station is 10km away from Gamho Station, the southernmost point in North Korea beyond the Military Demarcation Line, and 27 km away from Mt. Geumgang. The Donghae Bukbu Railway Line is currently disconnected from Jejin Station to the Gangneung section, but restoration plans will connect all the lines again. A test run was conducted in 2007 from Jejin Station to Gamho Station, but no trains have been operated on this track since then.
