도라산역은 경기도 파주시 장단면에 있는 경의선의 철도역이다. 2000년 남북정상회담에 따른 경의선 복구 사업의 일환으로 2002년에 설립되었으며, 역명은 인근의 도라산에서 유래하였다. 도라산역을 통과하는 경의선은 과거 한때 일제의 대륙침략의 통로로 이용된 아픈 역사를 갖고 있다. 하지만 손기정선수가 경의선열차를 타고 장단역을 지나 베를린올림픽 마라톤대회에 참가하는 등 우리민족이 대륙으로 뻗어갈 수 있는 주요 교통 수단이기도 하였다. 현재 남북 간 철도운행이 중단된 상태이지만 미래의 도라산역은 사실상 섬나라에 갖힌 대한민국이 북으로 대륙으로 연결되고, 개성공단에서 생산된 한국의 상품들을 싣고 시베리아를 거쳐 유럽까지 수송하는 물류기지이자 대륙횡단열차 여행을 꿈꾸게하는 공간으로서 역할을 수행할 것이다. 그래서 역의 공식 표어는 “남쪽의 마지막 역이 아니라 북으로 가는 첫 번째 역입니다.”이다.

Dorasan Station is a northern railway station on the South Korean border situated on the Gyeongui Line in Paju, in the Gyeonggi Province. It was established in 2002 as part of the Gyeongui Line restoration project, following the Inter-Korean Summit of 2000. The station is named after Dora Mountain, which is nearby, and is 56 km from Seoul and 205 km from Pyongyang. It is not currently operational due to poor inter-Korean relations, but the facilities are fully equipped to resume service at any time. The station’s current purpose is mainly symbolic, representing hope for reunification. The station's official motto is: " This is not the last station of the South, but the first station toward the North."
